Abir Chatterjee’s third adventure as Sonada in Dhrubo Banerjee’s Karnasubarner Guptodhon is on a successful run at the box office. The film has already recovered the cost and is heading towards becoming one of the major blockbusters in the Bengali film industry. Meanwhile, the actor’s Byomkesh Hotyamancha, which was released in August, is all set to be dropped on OTT. Directed by Arindam Sil, the film stars Abir as Byomkesh, Sohini Sarkar as Satyabati, and Suhotra Mukhopadhyay as Ajit.

The film that is based on Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s incomplete work Bishupal Bodh was later developed and completed by Arindam and Padmanabha Dasgupta. The film also features Paoli, Arna Mukhopadhyay, Kinjal Nanda, Loknath De, and others. The film will have its digital premiere in Hoichoi on October 14.

Byomkesh Hotyamancha has received mixed positive reviews after its release. The film explores the popular theatre culture in Kolkata. Bishu Pal (Kinjal Nanda) – a popular theatre personality – gets killed right on stage while performing Keechak Badh at Gandharba Theatre in Hatibagan, right in front of Byomkesh (Abir Chatterjee). The sleuth has been enjoying the show with his wife Satyabati (Sohini Sarkar), assistant Ajit (Suhotra Mukhopadhyay), and friend and neighbour Pratulbabu (Padmanabha Dasgupta). Byomkesh takes up the case.

Abir Chatterjee has been juggling between two franchises Byomkesh and Sonada. His journeys as Byomkesh started in 2010 under the direction of Anjan Dutt. Later, he starred in Arindam’s Byomkesh debut Har Har Byomkesh in 2014. This is his fourth Byomkesh film with Arindam.

On the other hand, Abir’s other franchise, Sonada, started in 2017 with Dhrubo Banerjee’s Guptodhoner Sandhane. In 2019, the second chapter of the franchise, Durgeshgarher Guprodhon was released. After a break of three years, the third one was released on September 30, just before Durga Puja, and it proved to be the biggest hit in the Bengali industry this Puja.
