Varun Dhawan is certainly keeping busy these days. The star has a host of films awaiting release, and it seems like he has signed on for another project, this time helmed by prominent Kollywood filmmaker Atlee.

According to a report in Times of India, the actor had met with the filmmaker recently, and would soon collaborate on a Hindi film which will be a remake of a popular South Indian movie. The source told the portal that ‘there is a good chance’ that the South film in question is Theri. An official announcement regarding the same is yet to be made.

Over two years ago, there had reportedly been news of how Dhawan had been approached for a remake of Alee’s movie as well. The 2016 film was also written and directed by Atlee and it starred Vijay and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in leading roles.

In the year of its release, there had been rumours of how a Hindi remake of Theri was going to be helmed by Rohit Shetty, with seasoned stars such as Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan rumoured to be in talks for the same. The reports, however, had been denied by Shetty.

Theri revolves around the story of a man who is forced to revisit his troubles he left behind, when a vengeful villain threatens his family’s life. The film also features Amy Jackson, Mahendran and Raadhika Sarathkumar in pivotal roles. The film went on to become one of the most commercially successful Tamil films of 2016.

Meanwhile, Dhawan is currently awaiting the release of his films such as Bhediya and Jug Jugg Jeeyo, and also working on a movie directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Atlee is currently working on a project with Shah Rukh Khan.
