Fans of renowned K-pop band member BTS’ vocalist Jin will now have to wait to hear him croon live on stage as the eldest member of the band has started with his mandatory military service on Tuesday (December 12).
Interestingly, Jin happens to be the first member frokm the band to enlist in the South Korean army as part of the country’s mandatory rule to serve the nation. Jin took to the Korean social-netweorking app Weverse to show off his latest buzz cut for his time ahead in the military and joked that his new hairdo is actually ‘cuter’ than he had imagined.
Sungdeuk Son, the band's music performance director, reshared Jin’s photo on his Instagram page, saying, "I hope you have a healthy trip and be a precious time in your life.. 🙏."
Big Hit Music, the band’s music label, has requested Jin’s fans not to visit him during his military service and promised to keep his fans updated about him while he carries his responsibilities out.
"Jin will fulfill his required time with the military by enlisting in the army. Please note that we will not be holding any kind of official event on the day of his recruitment. The entrance ceremony is a time to be observed by military personnel and their families only. In order to prevent any issues that might occur from crowding, we ask fans to please refrain from visiting the site. Instead, we ask you to keep your heartwarming words of support and farewell in your hearts. We ask for your continued love and support for Jin until he finishes his military service and comes back," it states in its ending. "Our company will also strive to provide every support he needs during this time."
BTS, too, announced in an earlier press release back in October of this year that "both the company and the members of BTS are looking forward to reconvening as a group again around 2025 following their service commitment."
For the unversed, under South Korean law, all able-bodied men are required to serve between 18 and 21 months in the South Korean military before they turn 30. Since Jin turned 30 on December 4, his service commenced on Tuesday (December 12).
