Bro, the Telugu remake of Samuthirakani, Thambi Ramaiah starrer Vinodhaya Sitham, headlined by Pawan Kalyan, Sai Dharam Tej, Ketika Sharma, Priya Prakash Varrier and others, released in theatres on July 28. The film, written and directed by Samuthirakani, had screenplay and dialogues by Trivikram. TG Vishwa Prasad of People Media Factory and ZEE Studios produced the film.

Four weeks after its theatrical run, the film was out on Netflix yesterday. Here are five reasons you need to watch it.

Pawan Kalyan’s vintage avatar

Samuthirakani, who waited long to direct Pawan Kalyan, did his homework well, understanding the isms in his films and popular dialogues and integrated it seamlessly into the story. The film is packed with smart throwbacks to his previous films, including Thammudu, Jalsa, Gudumba Shankar. It is certainly one of Pawan Kalyan’s most energetic performances in the recent times.

The bromance between Pawan Kalyan, Sai Dharam Tej

Bro is a special film for another reason - it’s probably the first time that two leading actors from different generations in the ‘mega’ family get to share screenspace, much to the delight of their fans. The verbal banters and the playful chemistry between Pawan Kalyan and Sai Dharam Tej is a delight to watch. They get to shake a leg as well and there’s entertainment aplenty for the viewer.

Samuthirakani’s meaningful story

Beyond the stars, entertainment, one of Bro’s key strengths is its beautiful story. It explores death and the idea of time through the lens of a self-centric workaholic, who tirelessly earns for his family. It eventually humbles you and makes you understand that anyone in the film has to surrender to time (represented by a God in the film).

Trivikram’s entertaining screenplay

Trivikram, who has plenty of experience in handling adaptations and remakes, does a fine job in reimagining an emotional drama like Vinodhaya Sitham, giving it a massy makeover, understanding the demands of his target audience. It makes full use of the talents of the cast with the entertaining screenplay without affecting the essence of the story.

Stellar performances by the cast

Besides the lead actors Pawan Kalyan and Sai Dharam Tej, the film has a stellar supporting cast comprising Priya Prakash Varrier, Ketika Sharma, Brahmanandam, Raja Chembolu, Rohini, Prudhvi Raj and Subbaraju, who deliver commendable performances, holding their own.
