It has been more than a week since Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2 landed on Netflix but the internet is still buzzing with speculations about whose love story will be explored in Season 4. Benedict is a strong contender but we won’t know for sure since Season 4 is not expected for the next two years. So as we wait for more updates from the ton, let’s rewind to Season 3 and further explore the adorable love story of Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, and how they first met.
In episode 2 of Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1, which dropped on Netflix in mid-May, Colin and Penelope have a fun tete-a-tete as they recollect their first meeting but the series does not feature the meeting as such. Read on to know about their first meeting which is in fact the exact moment that Penelope fell in love with Colin as well.
Penelope and Colin’s first meeting
American author Julia Quinn narrates the tale of Penelope and Colin in her fourth book on the Bridgerton family - Romancing Mister Bridgerton. Though the novels all concentrate on the Bridgerton siblings, this book starts with Penelope. How the rather chubby Penelope was pushed into the marriage mart by her bossy mama and how she sat on the sidelines as years and other young ladies went ahead of her.
Though Featheringtons live next door to Bridgertons, Penelope actually first met Colin out in the park. Penelope literally fell in love with Colin in a quirky encounter, which is not unlike the ones we have seen in our good old Bollywood films.
Penelope is out in the park, taking a stroll along with mama Featherington and Lady Bridgerton, but sneaks away and catches sight of two horse riders coming her way. She hides behind a tree trunk (always looking for cover) and at that exact moment, her bonnet comes off and hits one of the riders in his face as he tumbles down into a muddy puddle!
Penelope rushes forward to apologize for causing him to fall but finds the rider (Colin) laughing as he jokingly says, “Well, that wasn't very well done of me, was it?"
Thus Penelope Featherington fell in love with Colin Bridgerton even before she knew his name. But before either of them could get fully acquainted, their mamas make an entry, and Colin, who quickly senses mama Featherington’s matchmaking skills, bids farewell to the group.

What happens next?
Their friendship grew over the years, but Penelope’s love remained in her heart and Colin never showed any interest in her for a long time. But good things come to people who wait, and Penelope’s dream comes true and she becomes Colin’s love interest and wife. However, it was not smooth sailing for their romantic story as her stint as Lady Whistledown leads to many tense moments between them.
