Vijay fans have some good news in store. Thalapathy Vijay's upcoming Pongal release Varisu, which was billed as a bilingual (Tamil and Telugu), will now release in Hindi as well. The big news was announced by none other than the leading Telugu producer Dil Raju, who is distributing the film.
In a recent interview to a regional channel, the producer is seen saying that Varisu/ Varasudu (Telugu) was the first film to be announced as a Makar Sankranti release for 2023. He also revealed that the film will be released in Hindi as well, along with Tamil and Telugu versions. He added that among the other Sankranthi Telugu releases, Walter Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy, his film Varasudu will get better screens due to his relationship with theatre owners.
Earlier, speculations were rife that Vijay's film may not have as many screens due to a directive by the Telugu Film Producers Association, which stated that original Telugu releases should be given preference during Sankranthi and Dussehra over the dubbed ones. This sent across rumours that Vijay's film may not get as many screens as expected. In Tamil Nadu, too, Ajith's Thuniu, which is also hitting screens for Pongal had booked many screens and was distributed by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies. The US rights have been bagged by Sarigama Cinemas who had bagged the rights for Ponniyin Selvan and RRR.
Varisu is a family drama cum entertainer and has an ensemble cast with Rashmika Mandanna as the leading lady, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Shaam, Sarathkumar, Meena, Sneha, Samyuktha, Sangeetha, Yogi Babu to name a few. Music for the film is by Thaman and the film marks Vijay's maiden collaboration with Vamshi Paidipally, Thaman and Rashmika. Cinematography is by Karthik Phalani and editing by Praveen KL. The film has been bankrolled by Dil Raju, Sirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations and PVP Cinema.
