Bramayugam OTT release date confirmed: Here's when, where to stream Mammootty's horror masterpiece

Malayalam superstar Mammootty's latest movie Bramayugam is one of the most-awaited releases in the OTT space. The wait is now finally over, with the filmmakers officially revealing its streaming details. SonyLIV confirmed on Wednesday that the OTT release date for Bramayugam is March 15.

Bramayugam will arrive on streaming exactly a month after its theatrical debut on February 15. It has become a norm of sorts for new Malayalam films to have their digital premieres after only four weeks of exclusive theatrical run. This trend has become a major point of contention between the producers and Kerala's exhibitors and distributors.

Bramayugam arrives on OTT sooner than expected

Recently, the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK), a powerful association in the Malayalam film industry, issued an ultimatum to producers on this matter. FEUOK announced that the theatres under its control would not screen any new Malayalam movies with shorter OTT windows . They demanded that all new movies must delay their OTT debuts by at least six weeks.

FEUOK seems to have taken a leaf from the playbook of their counterparts in North India, where new Hindi movies not adhering to the 8-week exclusive theatrical run rule will be collectively shunned by exhibitors.

The Malayalam film producers or their associated organizations have not responded to FEUOK's ultimatum.

Bramayugam a box office hit

Bramayugam is written and directed by Rahul Sadasivan, who appears to be carving a niche for himself in the Indian horror genre. Set against the backdrop of feudal Kerala, Bramayugam is a psychological horror drama that explores issues relevant even today.

The film revolves around three main characters trapped in a game of power. Bramayugam opened in cinemas to glowing reviews from critics and audiences alike, emerging as one of the biggest hits in Malayalam cinema so far.

Reportedly, Bramayugam has raked in more than Rs 60 crore from its worldwide ticket sales against its production cost of less than Rs 30 crore.
