Sanjay Rrao, Pranavi Manukonda are joining forces for a quirky entertainer Slum Dog Husband, written and directed by AR Sreedhar, a former protege of Puri Jagannadh. The film, produced by Appireddy and Venkat Annapareddy under Mic Movies, releases in theatres tomorrow. Reliance Entertainment is distributing the film in Telugu states.

Ahead of its release, Brahmaji, cast as a lawyer in the project, spoke of his role and what could audiences expect from the film. “Generally, I don’t get to play new roles because I’ve been around for long and tried nearly everything in the book. However, this film got me to do something new. I play an old-city lawyer who liberally uses Urdu amidst his Telugu and specialises in divorces,” he says.

Brahmaji was approached for Slum Dog Husband during the shoot of Mr Pregnant, when the producers sought an opinion from him on the story. “I liked it and they wanted to cast me as a lawyer. I had no apprehensions but they hadn’t finalised the hero yet. A month later, I asked them to approach my son Sanjay, who took a liking to it and the film went on floors,” the actor shares.

The concept is the USP of the film, Brahmaji doesn’t deny. “When RGV heard the script, he suggested the producers to title it Kukka Mogudu but they stuck to Slum Dog..” The veteran’s scenes with Saptagiri and Fish Venkat have reportedly shaped up well. Bheems Ceciroleo’s foot-tapping tunes will be another major attraction for viewers.

Brahmaji also thanks his industry counterparts for helping with the film’s publicity, more so directors Anil Ravipudi, Sukumar. “All of them have stood up for me when I needed them, be it Pradeep, Ali or Nagarjuna.” Even Allu Arjun, in the middle of Pushpa 2’s shoot, said he loved the trailer of Slum Dog Husband and showed it to his team, Brahmaji remarks.

Spilling the beans about the much-awaited sequel to the Allu Arjun starrer, he mentions, “Pushpa 2 will be much better the first part. I’ll be seen alongside Fahadh Faasil in several sequences. Fahadh too watched the trailer of our film and told it had potential to be remade in multiple languages.”

He calls himself a secure actor and says it’s a reason why he continues to be young at heart. “I also don’t take social media seriously and try to have fun as much as I can.” The actor states he and his son Sanjay hardly discuss cinema at home. “I don’t advise him with scripts but ask him to do something that’ll help him stand out.” Guntur Kaaram, Salaar, Bhagavanth Kesari, Ooru Peru Bhairavakona and Naga Shaurya’s untitled film are other projects he’s working on.
