Boy Kills World trailer – A stylized orgy of off kilter humor, bloody action scenes and a ripped Bill Skarsgard

Moritz Mohr makes his directorial debut with Boy Kills World, which has the support of some well-known people. This includes director-producer Sam Raimi of the Evil Dead franchise and the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy, and Roy Lee of IT and Barbarian fame. The film is an eclectic mix of dark humour, stylized videogame-like narration, bloody action scenes, and Purge-like violence.

The film will be enjoying a theatrical release in the United States on April 26, 2024, competing with the likes of Zendaya’s Challengers, Unsung Hero, and Cinderella’s Revenge. The Boy Kills World trailer, which was released today, has bright colours and a hyper-realistic dystopian world featuring cereal brands committing televised mass murder for advertising, entertainment, and sponsorship.

And if that is not weird enough, then the post-apocalyptic world is run by a deranged matriarch, Hilda Van Der Koy, and her family. Now comes Bill Skarsgard into the picture, rendered deaf, mute, and orphaned, thanks to the former, armed with a grim vengeance and a ripped body.

The Skargard brother has proved his acting mettle previously with projects like IT, Hemlock Grove, and John Wick: Chapter 4. Here he will be playing a completely different character, adding further variety to his acting spectrum. Driven by his inner voice, which is the one he co-opted from his favourite childhood video game, Boy, aka Bill, trains under a mysterious Shaman.

Then he goes all John Wick on the eve of the ‘annual culling of dissidents’ or the televised murder orgy of rebels and resisters by killer cereal mascots. Except he is armed with his honed martial arts skills, blood-thirsty vengeance, and the apparent ghost of his rebellious little sister.

A fun, quirky movie with an intriguing premise, solid editing, and fresh action sequences is indeed worth a watch, if not just for the starry cast. Boy Kills World features a talented cast, comprising Bill Skarsgard, Jessica Rothe, Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Isaiah Mustafa, Famke Janssen, Brett Gelman, and Sharlto Copley.
