Bougainvillea: Jyothirmayi reveals she was unsure when Amal Neerad offered her the film; Here's why

Bougainvillea, the highly anticipated Amal Neerad directorial, has been creating quite a stir on social media with its highly promising songs and recently released trailer. Kunchacko Boban and Jyothirmayi are playing lead roles in the film, which is touted to be a psychological crime drama. The popular actress, who is making a comeback to films after a 11-year-long break with Bougainvillea, recently opened up about becoming a part of her husband Amal Neerad’s upcoming film.

Jyothirmayi says she was unsure about Bougainvillea

In a recent interview with Manorama Online, Jyothirmayi, who is set to make a comeback to films with Bougainvillea, extensively spoke about becoming a part of the project. According to the talented actress, she was initially unsure about becoming a part of the project. When her husband and the film’s director Amal Neerad offered her the role of Reethu, Jyothirmayi was reluctant to accept it. The actress was unsure about taking up such a challenging character, as she had been staying away from films for so long.

Jyothirmayi revealed that she initially felt that a complex character like Reethu should be played by an artist who can do complete justice to it. However, Amal Neerad was very clear that he would not proceed with the project if she did not take up the part. Later, the actress decided to take the chance and take up the part. The filmmaker has always been confident about his wife’s talent and felt that she is the perfect choice to play Reethu, in Bougainvillea.

Bougainvillea cast and crew

Kunchacko Boban appears in the role of Dr. Royce Thomas, a medical practitioner in the film, scripted by Lajo Jose. Jyothirmayi appears as Royce’s wife Reethu, who suffers from retrograde amnesia after they meet with a deadly road accident. Reethu gets into trouble after a few young women go missing from the city under mysterious circumstances, and she becomes the prime suspect in the case. 

Fahadh Faasil makes a cameo appearance in the film as David Koshy, the cop who handles the investigation, in Bougainvillea. Sharaf U Dheen, Srindaa, and Veena Nandakumar essay the supporting roles. Sushin Shyam composes the songs and original score. Anend C Chandran is the director of photography. Vivek Harshan handles the editing.
