As Border (1997) marked 27 years since its premiere, Sunny Deol confirmed on June 13 that Anurag Singh will direct the sequel. The news followed weeks of speculation that Ayushmann Khurrana and the veteran actor would star as the leads in Border 2. After months of negotiations with the producers, Khurrana has reportedly chosen to step away from the military drama, according to Midday.

Ayushmann Khurrana exits Border 2

A source told the tabloid that Ayushmann was reportedly being courted to portray a soldier in the sequel. Despite the creators' and the actor's enthusiasm for working together, he was unsure of his position in an ensemble under Sunny, a towering figure in his own right.

JP Dutta, who also directed Border, which starred Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, and Deol, will co-produce the sequel. It seems like director Singh is eager to pack Border 2 with the same A-listers.

Speculations about Diljit Dosanjh

According to recent war drama speculations, Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh may appear in the film. The source clarified that they have not yet received any confirmation. The producers, however, have contacted Diljit. Due to their large fan bases in northern India, Diljit and Sunny's onscreen chemistry will be much anticipated.

By November, production on the film should begin.

Ayushmann Khurrana's other projects

Meanwhile, Ayushmann has reportedly also exited Meghna Gulzar's upcoming film, co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan. The filmmaker is reportedly preparing to launch her film, Daayra, by the end of the year, according to the tabloid. Khurrana also has a music tour scheduled for November, which conflicts with his plans.

According to a source, his music tour will be hitting many big US cities. Additionally, the actor has two film commitments: one with Maddock Films and one with Karan Johar and Guneet Monga Kapoor. He has not factored Meghna's film into the dates currently under discussion for all the projects. Everyone on the production crew is aware, and rumour has it that Meghna is already on the hunt for a replacement.
