Acclaimed South Korean director Bong Joon Ho is going to soon helm his next project, a sci-fi film that will be led by Robert Pattinson.
Set at Warner Bros, the film will be based on Edward Ashton's upcoming novel Mickey7.
Bong will write and direct the untitled film, which he will also produce via his banner Offscreen alongside Dooho Choi for Kate Street Picture Company and Plan B, according to Deadline.
The report states that Mickey7 will be published in the first quarter of 2022. It tells the story of "an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it."
Deadline further adds that after the release and global success of Parasite, Bong has taken a while to decide on his next venture. He was offered the unpublished manuscript of Mickey7, after which he decided to adapt it for the screen.
He and the Warner Bros team were also on the lookout for who would star, and after a successful meeting with Pattinson, they decided to sign him.
This untitled sci-fi film will be Bong's second collaboration with Warner Bros following an upcoming HBO limited series based on Parasite and produced by Adam McKay.
Meanwhile, Pattinson is awaiting the release of The Batman on March 4.
