After the massive success of Indubala Bhaater Hotel, Debaloy Bhattacharya is back on Hoichoi with Boka Bakshote Bondi. The title, borrowed from a famous Bengali song, translates into ‘trapped in an idiot box’ and delves into the life of a television heroine played by Solanki Roy. The web series also features Neel Bhattacharya, Shoumo Banerjee, and others.

The trailer shows that an actress, Apala (Solanki), gears up for the last day of her shooting of the supposedly popular serial Mon Sohager Ghor. She plays the lead Sandhyamoni in the serial. However, even after the shooting, she can’t leave. Her on-screen husband, played by Neel, stops her. In an alternate reality, he explains that the set is her home, and the actors and actresses of the serial are her family members. Apala gets trapped in Sandhyamoni.

At the outset, the trailer shows an interesting take on two realities. The look and feel, especially the dialogues from the serial within the show, are very similar to those that we get to experience in the real serial. They are loud and flashy.

In reality, many of the television heroines are more popular in their screen names than their real names. The seemingly obvious crisis of identity seems to be the moot point of the series. In fact, Solanki and Neel are two of the most popular faces in the Bengali television industry. In fact, according to many industry experts, the Bengali serial industry is more robust than the film industry of Tollygunge. The serials made in Tollygunge are often replicated on national television. It will be interesting to see how Debaloy, known to experiment with novel ideas, interprets the TV industry in his show. Moreover, It will be worth the wait to watch a show that follows the legacy of alleged serial-like shows on OTT platforms.

Boka Bakshote Bondi will stream on Hoichoi from June 21.
