When the India OTT release of the Kannada sc-fi thriller Blink was delayed and a crystal clear print of the film from its overseas digital release out on the internet, it was thought that the prospects of the film would be doomed. Who would watch it on a subscription-based platform like Amazon Prime Video, when it was available for free on certain sites?
Well, turns out, Kannada audiences will still watch it on the proper channel and do right by the team. Blink, which has been streaming on Amazon Prime Video for the past few days, has managed to get to the 1 crore streaming minutes mark, stated producer Ravichandra AJ on May 21. The team has been quite transparent about the business the film has made since its theatrical run, including about the time when they did not even have a single show in Karnataka.
The filmmaker officially stated these figures on social media, thanking audiences for the immense support. As OTTplay had reported earlier, a 1 crore streaming minute account will get the team only Rs 2-4 lakh, depending on the deal they’ve got and relevant tax cuts. The streaming minutes will have to grow multi-fold for the team to make some money.
Blink has Dheekshith in the role of Apurva, a post-graduate student, who has got a couple of subjects to clear. On a trip to buy reference books for his exams, Apurva sees an old man watching him. When confronted, the old man, Arivu, tells Apurva that the story he’s grown up with – that his father deserted the family years ago and is presumed dead – may not be true after all. What is the actual story then? That is what Blink is about.
Directed by debutant Srinidhi Bengaluru, who also used Oedipus Rex inspiration in his take, Blink stars Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Chaithra J Achar, Suresh Anagalli, Vajradheer Jain, among others in pivotal roles.
