Since the original Blade Runner movie came out in 1982 starring Harrison Ford, it was setting up a world that would in the future have a large fanbase. After the 2017 sequel Blade Runner 2049, the latest news is about a follow-up series.
According to Deadline, Blade Runner is going to the small screens under Amazon Studios, as they are already in the works for a live-action sequel series titled Blade Runner 2099.
Ridley Scott, who helmed the iconic 1982 original will be seen as an executive producer in the project. The series will be a follow up to the events and stories of Blade Runner 2049, which was directed by Denis Villeneuve and had Ryan Gosling in the lead.
Silka Luisa, who is the showrunner of Apple TV+’s upcoming series Shining Girls starring Elisabeth Moss, will be the writer for the Blade Runner series. The show is currently at priority development at Amazon Studios according to reports, meaning they are already working on finalizing a script and also looking for dates to begin production.
Blade Runner 2099, which marks the first live-action series for the popular movie franchise, comes from Alcon Entertainment in association with Scott Free Productions and Amazon Studios.
Blade Runner is a science fiction film that was set in a dystopian future where synthetic humans known as replicants were made and shipped off to work in space colonies. Harrison Ford plays a cop who is tasked with tracking down a group of advanced replicants who return to Earth. The movie is an adaptation of Philip K. Dick's 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
The sequel Blade Runner 2049 saw Gosling play a replicant blade runner who uncovers a secret that threatens to destabilize society. The movie also stars Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Dave Bautista, and Jared Leto among others.
