HBO's 'The Idol', which marked BLACKPINK's Jennie's debut in the acting world, has been officially cancelled. Despite the show's initial buzz fueled by its star-studded cast and provocative storyline, the second season of the show has been officially cancelled. 'The Idol', which was initially released on HBO on June 4, emerged as a joint endeavour involving The Weeknd and Sam Levinson, the mastermind behind the popular series "Euphoria."

On August 29, it was confirmed that HBO's controversial series 'The Idol' would not continue. The show's conclusion arrived prematurely after airing only five episodes, falling short of its originally planned six-episode season.

Reportedly, an HBO spokesperson stated, "The Idol' has been one of HBO's most provocative original programs, and we are pleased with the enthusiastic response from our viewers. However, after extensive deliberation, we, along with the producers, have decided not to proceed with a second season. We extend our gratitude to the producers, cast, and crew for delivering such a fantastic show".

The Idol controversies:

'The Idol' uncovered the hidden darkness lurking beneath Hollywood's dazzling exterior, focusing on the central figure, Jocelyn, played by Lily-Rose Depp.

Jocelyn, an aspiring pop vocalist, finds herself ensnared by the mysterious cult figure Tedros, brought to life by The Weeknd.

From its very beginning, 'The Idol' has been no stranger to controversy. Despite expectations that negative discussions might taper off after the show's launch, criticisms aimed at the series only grew stronger with each subsequent episode.

The spotlight on the show remained predominantly unfavourable, as various characters and their narratives struggled to strike a positive chord with the audience.
