A new year, a new beginning. Even as incidents from Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 4 are still fresh in the minds of the audience, the team of the Mohanlal-hosted show have already begun work on the next edition.
Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 5, which will be telecast on Asianet and will begin streaming in Disney+ Hotstar later this year, will once again be hosted by Mohanlal, who has been part of the show for the past four editions too.
While there were reports that the reality show will begin from March 5, a highly-placed source from the team exclusively tells OTTplay, “We are yet to confirm the date, but March 5 is definitely not on the cards.” Like the previous edition, which saw Dilsha Prasannan emerge as winner with Blesslee as the runner-up, the sets of Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 5 will also be in Film City, Mumbai.
On if there would be major changes in the House setup, the source tells us, “We are yet to lock in on a design right now. All that work will begin only in the coming weeks.”
Incidentally, this year, the title sponsor of the show, which is a telecom provider, will also be nominating a contestant from the audience, along with those picked by the Bigg Boss Malayalam team from all walks of society. “We will be shooting the promo for that highlight of this year’s edition in the first week of February,” says the source.
The fifth edition of the reality show, which has drawn huge ratings for its broadcast partner, is expected to premiere by the end of March or April 2023. Apart from Dilsha, the previous winners of Bigg Boss Malayalam include actors Sabumon Abdusamad and Manikuttan. The second season of the show was discontinued in light of the pandemic in 2020.
