Akshay Kumar, who has his calendar full with a slew of releases lined up for the next two years, is teaming up with his Toilet Ek Prem Katha co-star Bhumi Pednekar for Raksha Bandhan. The film, directed by Aanand L Rai, that focuses on the significance of the brother-sister bond, was announced in 2020 but went on floors only recently. Actress Bhumi Pednekar had joined the sets of the film earlier today.
Expressing her happiness on being a part of team Raksha Bandhan, the actress tweeted, "A very special film & a very special reunion. Am supremely excited to be collaborating again with two of my favourite creative powerhouses & humans. Am full of gratitude to be a part of this special, heart-touching story #RakshaBandhan." The project also marks Akshay's second collaboration with Aanand Rai after Atrangi Re while the former had also produced Bhumi Pednekar's Durgamati (a remake of the Telugu hit Bhaagamathie) that released last December.
Real-life couple, writers Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon are part of this project presented by Zee Films and jointly produced by Cape of Goodhope Films and Colour Yellow Production. Akshay Kumar, talking about the movie, at the time of its launch had said, “Raksha Bandhan is a special film for all of us, rarely are such pure and simple films made. Can’t wait to begin filming for this one!” The film was initially expected to arrive at theatres in November 2021 but the pandemic has forced the team to think otherwise. The makers are yet to announce a new release date.
