Bhooth Bangla: Tabu FINALLY announces reunion with Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan after Hera Pheri

After leaving an impressive mark in Dune: Prophecy, at long last, Tabu has revealed what she plans to do next! Akshay Kumar's highly anticipated horror comedy, Bhooth Bangla, under the direction of Priyadarshan, will feature the actor next. After speculative reports, Tabu confirmed the news on her Instagram page.

Tabu announces joining Bhooth Bangla

As she made the announcement on social media, the actor shared a photo of the clapperboard that read Bhooth Bangla. The caption of her Instagram post read, Hum yahan bandh hain. (We are trapped here.)"

Tabu's reunion with Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar

After working together on 2000's Hera Pheri, Tabu is getting back together with Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan. The role and the storyline, which weaves together elements of Indian mythology with comedy and horror, were a perfect fit for the actor. She couldn't wait to enter the wild universe that Priyadarshan built.

The 2026 film Bhooth Bangla features an impressive cast including Akshay Kumar, Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav, and Asrani. They are currently in the process of bringing on board other well-known performers from the Indian film industry for the film. The insider divulged that filming is now taking place, and the producers aim to wind off the project by April 2025. They also mentioned that, true to the genre, the film would have extensive visual effects in order to bring a fresh take on the genre to the big screen.

For a while, rumours circulated that Tabu would be joining the drama's cast, but fans were waiting for an official confirmation. The actor reportedly has a major role to perform in the horror comedy.

Connection to Bhool Bhulaiyaa

According to the source informing Pinkvilla, the original creators of this trend, who began it all with Bhool Bhulaiyaa in 2007, are bringing their signature blend of horror and comedy to Bhooth Bangla. The intriguing thing is that Akshay is the only one who can continue the franchise. As per his contract, the actor can star in the film alone or with his NOC. The source plans to release one installment in the series every two years.

Balaji Telefilms, under the leadership of Shobha and Ektaa R Kapoor, and Cape of Good Films, under Akshay Kumar, produced Bhooth Bangla. Rohan Shankar, Abilash Nair, and Priyadarshan wrote the screenplay, while Akash A. Kaushik created the plot.

Release date

The release date for Bhooth Bangla is April 2, 2026.
