Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, starring Kartik Aryan in the lead, has made headlines with the makers releasing the movie’s trailer. Director Anees Bazmee has now stated that the movie will be a horror comedy and not a psychological thriller like the first instalment of the film franchise.
Talking to PTI, the director said, “I was clear I didn’t want to make a psychological thriller. If I had made it that way, there would have been direct comparisons. When you watch this film, it will remind you of part one, but it isn’t exactly similar.”
He also said that there was no point in making a sequel if it was the same as the first movie. He added that the viewers will be reminded of the first movie, but it will be like watching a new movie.
Bazmee further added that this is the first time he was making a horror flick and so he was excited and had to get it right.
Starring Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, Tabu, Rajpal Yadav and Sanjay Mishra in pivotal roles, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is backed by Bhushan Kumar, Murad Khetani, Anjum Khetani and Krishan Kumar under the banner of T-Series and Cine 1 Studios.
Meanwhile, Bhool Bhulaiyaa came out in 2009 and was the remake of the blockbuster Malayalam movie, Manichitrathazhu. Directed by Priyadarshan, the movie featured Akshay Kumar, Ameesha Patel, Shiney Ahuja, Vidya Balan, Paresh Rawal, Manoj Joshi, Asrani, Rajpal Yadav and Vikram Gokhale. The psychological comedy horror was a big hit following its release and has since had a big following.
Bazmee’s sequel is set to hit theatres on May 20.
