All eyes were on Mammootty’s Bheeshma Parvam when it released on March 3 under 100% theatre occupancy, and much to the relief of theatre exhibitors and the film industry, the movie first day figures didn’t disappoint. In fact, it was the highest in recent times for a Mammootty-starrer.

The movie, which was already Mammootty’s biggest release since Madhuraraja in 2019, had opened to a record number of screens and by the end of the day, thanks to the largely positive reviews, this number touched 400 with most theatres adding extra shows. The total number of shows reportedly surpassed 1600 by the end of Day 1, and the film is expected to continue the momentum throughout the weekend.

This is an impressive feat considering that the movie didn’t have any fans shows that were there for Mohanlal’s Odiyan, Marakkar and Lucifer, which reportedly raked in the highest opening day figures for a film in Kerala box office.

Bheeshma Parvam’s record opening, which was forecast at Rs 3.6 crore by box office tracking consultancy Ormax Media, was easily eclipsed with industry insiders saying that the film has touched almost Rs 6 crore. While the exact figure is still awaited, this makes it the highest opening day collection for a Mammootty-starrer surpassing Mamangam and Madhuraraja.

Bheeshma Parvam is also expected to draw in huge numbers from outside Kerala and abroad, where it was released in a record number of theatres. The film’s success would also encourage the makers of other big films that have queued for release including Nivin Pauly’s Thuramukham and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kaduva.
