Director Saagar K Chandra’s Telugu remake of the Malayalam hit Ayyappanum Koshiyum, Bheemla Nayak, which has Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati in the lead was supposed to release on January 12, 2022. But with the country experiencing a third wave of the Covid pandemic and theatres either shut or operating at limited capacity, several big-ticket films, including Bheemla Nayak had to be pushed ahead.
In fact, on January 15, the team had announced that the film would hit theatres on February 25 and today, there’s been a fresh update. “As we have always promised, #BheemlaNayak will be a massive theatrical experience. So, we have to wait for the pandemic to subside for presenting it in the theatres for you all. We intend to release the movie on 25th February or 1st April, whenever the situation improves!” read the post by the production house today.
Fans and industry insiders have been speculating that April 1 seems a more likely choice, as there’s no word on 100% theatre occupancy in several parts of the country and Covid cases are still on the upswing, ruling out February 25 in the process. However, April 1 would mean that the film hits theatres within a week of SS Rajamouli’s RRR, the release of which was announced today for March 25. It will also be just two weeks ahead of KGF: Chapter 2.
Produced by Sithara Entertainments, with music by S Thaman, the film also has Nitya Menen and Samyuktha Menon as the female leads. While Pawan takes on the role played by Biju Menon in the Malayalam original, Rana gets Prithviraj’s character. Reports suggest that the Telugu version will focus more on Pawan’s character, which will be a slight change from the Malayalam film.
