Suriya, the National award-winning actor joined hands with hitmaker Hari for the blockbuster cop thriller Singam. The celebrated actor played the central character Durai Singam, an honest Sub Inspector of police who is on a mission to put an end to the atrocities of Mayil Vaaganam (Prakash Raj), a Chennai-based gangster. The movie later had two more instalments, and was remade in Hindi, Kannada, Bengali, and Punjabi languages.

Aayirathil Oruvan

Director: Selvaraghavan

Cast: Karthi, Reema Sen, Andrea Jeremiah, R Parthiban, Pratap Pothen

This underrated gem helmed by Selvaraghavan, is truly one of the finest Tamil films released in the 2000s. Aayirathil Oruva revolves around Anitha (Reema Sen), a government official who embarks on a journey to find Chandramouli, an archaeologist, who went to Vietnam in order to search for any existence of the prince of the Chola dynasty. She is joined by Muthu(Karthi), a porter from Chennai, and Lavanya (Andrea), the daughter of Chandramouli.

Ayan

Cast: Suriya, Prabhu, Tamannaah Bhatia, Jagan, Akashdeep Saigal

The action thriller film helmed by KV Anand depicts the story of Deva (Suriya), an educated young man who works for Dass (Prabhu), a local smuggler. But Deva starts rethinking his career choices and helps the local police, after he falls in love with Yamuna (Tamannah Bhatia), the sister of his best friend Chitti (Jagan) who gets killed while saving him.

Subramaniapuram

The period action thriller directed by Sasikumar, is set in the 1980s and revolves around five friends who lead a carefree life in Madurai. But when they conduct a near-perfect crime and are caught, their commitment and loyalty to each other are put to the test. Sasikumar himself played the role of Paraman, while Jai and Samuthrakani appeared as Azhagar and Kanagu, respectively.

Nadodigal

This action-drama film helmed by Samuthirakani revolves around Karunakaran, Chandran, and Paandi, the three friends who fight hard to unite their friend Saravanan with his lady love Prabha.
