Cam is not your run-of-the-mill horror film where a mansion is haunted by ghosts. Deliver Us From Evil (2014)

Eric Bana gave his career-best performance when he decided to join forces with Scott Derrickson, who was just out of Sinister and was about to get into Doctor Stranger. A man is investigating a case, only to realise there is something demonic involved. While there are loose ends and a rushed plot in Deliver Us From Evil, the movie was more about the performance.
Crimson Peak (2015)
Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, and Jessica Chastain.
Director: Guillermo del Toro.
We failed Guillermo del Toro as fans when we didn’t appreciate him when he made Crimson Peak, which was actually a good horror film. You don’t expect horror from this filmmaker, which is why the movie was the winnera . Laced with stereotypes of a woman walking into a mansion with her husband and sister only to find something creepy, the filmmaker let his visual magic do the job. You have to watch Crimson Peak for its visual aesthetics and what is buried in there.
The Babadook (2014)
Cast: Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman, and Daniel Hanshall.
Director: Jennifer Kent.
The Babadook was where Jennifer Kent made her feature debut. A mother is raising her son, who is a special child, alone after the death of her husband. While the struggles of being a single mother haunt her, there is also a monster in her son’s room that is lurking in the shadows. It has to be one of the best horror films of that decade, not just Netflix.
Gerald’s Game (2017)
Cast: Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood, and Henry Thomas.
Director: Mike Flanagan.
A survival drama that turns into a horror flick? Bring it on. A Stephen King novel was adapted into a film by Mike Flanagan and it deserves all your attention. A woman is handcuffed to the bed by her husband, who later dies of a heart attack. The woman now has to break free of the handcuffs and survive without succumbing to the situation. But wait, what about the past trauma she has suppressed all this time?
Fear Street (2021)
Cast: Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke, and Emily Rudd.
Director: Leigh Janiak.
Feat Street, which dates back to 2021, is one of the recent bests. Not one film but the entire trilogy, stands the test of time for the horror it presented. The credits also go to Maya Hawke and Sadie Sink for their stellar performances that elevated Fear Street to how it has turned out today. Spread across three different eras, the trilogy is scary, entertaining, and has a lot more to offer.
