Manthan is about a veterinarian who starts a dairy cooperative in a small village in Gujarat. The film is a fictional account of the dairy cooperative movement that transformed India into a leading milk producer. A veterinarian, Dr. Rao (Girish Karnad), visits a village in Gujarat to start a dairy cooperative but the wealthy businessman Mishraji (Amrish Puri) and the Sarpanch (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) are not in support of the idea. However, Dr. Rao succeeds in making the villagers self-reliant with the help of Bindu (Smita Patil) and Bhola (Naseeruddin Shah).

Abdul Kalam, who pioneered modern Indian aerospace and nuclear technology. Rockey Boys also explores the political pressure, disagreements, and struggles faced by the scientists.
