Fresh out of the success of Stree 2, Aparshakti Khurana is onto his next project, Berlin. After being screened at various film festivals, the Atul Sabharwal directorial got a direct-to-OTT release on ZEE5. Set to premiere on September 13, you can watch Berlin with your OTTplay Premium subscription as well. Before the film drops, OTTplay interviewed Aparshakti, who spoke about the challenges of playing a sign-language expert.
In conversation with OTTplay, Aparshakti Khurana opened up about playing the character of Pushkin Verma in Berlin. He said, "The biggest challenge was to learn the sign language. It is not something that is there in the textbooks in school or something jo daily life mein iss cheez se vaakif ho sake."
The actor further revealed, "Jo main bol raha hoon aur jo main sign kar raha hoon (What I am saying, and what I am trying to sign), a lot of times ulte usme chal raha hai. If I want to say, 'Hi Nirali, kaise ho?', so while doing a sign, it can be 'Nirali, kaise ho?'. It was that confusion."
Apart from the above-mentioned challenges, Aparshakti faced other difficulties as well. "I also had to remember the sign language and the dialogues of what Ishwak was saying. So, these were the things that were difficult and different," he recalled. Despite the challenges he faced, Khurana enjoyed playing the part once he got into the groove of his character.
Before the conversation concluded, Aparshakti spoke about the reception to Berlin's trailer. The actor said that the team has received love from the audience. "People have loved what we have shown," he said and signed off.
In Berlin, Aparshakti's Pushkin Verma is tasked to decode what a deaf-mute man Ashok Kumar (Ishwak Singh) tries to convey during the investigation. Ashok is accused of being a foreign spy by an intelligence agency.
