Durga Puja is also known as Durgotsava or Shaaradotsava. During this festival, everyone celebrates Maa Durga over the evil forces. Several Bengali films too have beautifully captured the essence and celebrated the true spirit of the festival season. Mahalaya (ZEE5)

The film follows an incident in Bengal in 1976 when the widely popular Mahisasuramardini program, which has been playing on All India Radio since 1931 on the eve of Mahalaya, was replaced by a new program Durga Durgatiharini, narrated by Bengali film actor Uttam Kumar and composed by Hemanta Mukherjee. Birendra Krishna Bhadra narrated and Pankaj Mullick composed the first Mahisasuramardini program. 

Asur (ZEE5)

Cast: Jeet, Nusrat Jahan, Rajnandini Paul

Director: Pavel

According to the director, the film is a tribute to the sculptor Ramkinkar Baij. However, the story is inspired by Kolkata's Deshapriya Park in 2015, which saw us envision the world's first-ever largest Durga idol.

Speaking about the plot, Kigan, an artist, decides to create the world's largest Durga idol at Deshbandhu Park. However, animosity among friends and bruised egos threaten to destroy his grand effort.

Homecoming (SonyLIV)

Cast: Sayani Gupta, Tushar Pandey, Hussain Dalal

Director: Soumyajit Majumdar

This film is all about a group of "friends" and "misfits", who had formed a popular yet short-lived youth theatre group and reunite for the first time after seven years on the occasion of Durga Pujo night at their old rehearsal space, a bungalow. 

The film is a musical love letter to Calcutta. Directed by Soumyajit Majumdar, the film features music by Neil Mukherjee, the founder member of Krosswindz.

Lokhhi Chele (Sony LIV)

Cast: Ujaan Ganguly, Ritwika Pal, Purab Seal Acharya, Indrasish Roy

The plot revolves around Aamir Hussain, Shivnath Dutta, and Gayatri Chatterjee, three young doctors who stand against the socio-religious superstitions prevalent in the rural areas and are keen to bring about a sea of ​​change among the villagers. 

It tells us a story of unconditional love and compassion in a dark time of disillusionment - where, in the end, the only religion that remains steadfast, strong, and undefeated is humanity.

The web series follows the families of Urvi and Palash. They arrive at Kharapani Mansion to celebrate their engagement. As the house starts getting prepared for the upcoming engagement ceremony, a wall breaks, and there appears the eerie idol of a white kali, Shwetkali. This psychological thriller is a true binge-worthy.
