Actor-director Basil Joseph has already proved to be a lucky charm, post-pandemic, for Malayalam cinema. The filmmaker had helmed Tovino Thomas’ acclaimed desi superhero film Minnal Murali and also became part of three superhits – Jan-e-Man, Palthu Janwar and most recently Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey. Now, if reports are to be believed, the director could next work with Pranav Mohanlal.

Basil had earlier confirmed to us that he will be directing another movie before he starts work on the much-awaited sequel of Minnal Murali, starring Tovino in the lead. While there were several rumours that the project will have Fahadh in the lead and could be scripted by Syam Pushkaran, Basil denied those reports to us, saying that he hasn’t signed a film with the Joji actor or writer.

There were also reports that Basil would be heading to Bollywood to direct the upcoming film based on Shaktimaan, which the director also said were false. Now, the latest rumour is that Basil is gearing up to do a movie with Pranav and that it will be backed by Hridayam’s producers Merryland Studio. Hridayam was helmed by Basil’s mentor Vineeth Sreenivasan.

Basil, meanwhile, is currently fresh off the success of Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, which had him essay the role of the antagonist. The actor also has several releases lined up including Kadina Kadoramee Andakadaham, Cup and Enkilum Chandrike. He is currently shooting for Ajayante Randam Moshanam, which has Tovino essaying a triple role.

The filmmaker and Tovino are expected to team up for the sequel of Minnal Murali by next year end, once the scripting of the film is complete. The latest we hear is that the team has had discussions on the release plans for the sequel, which will be a theatrical release worldwide unlike the first instalment that dropped directly on Netflix.
