The trailer launch of Mohanlal's highly-anticipated directorial debut film Barroz was held in Mumbai on Wednesday (December 11, 2024), which also saw Bollywood star Akshay Kumar in attendance. During the grand event, Mohanlal said that Barroz is a movie crafted with love for children and adults,. He also expressed his hope that his movie Barroz, touted to be a period fantasy children’s film, would be a success.
Mohanlal, whose debut film Manjil Virinja Pookkal released in 1980, said that he is now standing in front of the audience as a director.
“I have been honoured to be a part of the industry for more than four decades, portraying different roles. Some of the roles have enchanted many. But this is very special. I am standing in front of you in a new look – as a director of a film. I never thought of it but it is happening. This is very personal.
“Barroz is very different. It has got a different layer of emotion, adventure, magic, and wonder. It is a 3-D film shot with stereo lenses," he explained.
Recalling that Malayalam cinema was the first to do a film in 3-D format with My Dear Kuttichathan in 1984, Mohanlal said that almost 40 years later, another such attempt is being made.
“Barroz is a story crafted with love for both children and adults. You can watch the film with your family and friends. Just step into theatres with an open heart to experience and explore the magical world of Barroz,” he urged the viewers.
Further speaking about the box office success of films during the event, the Malayalam superstar talked about the need for making good films that can be watched anywhere and are successful too.
“The film industry’s wheels have to turn and that’s happening because of release, success... So, every film should run and people should respect the film. There are films like Pushpa 2 and a lot of big films are coming. Even my film, I wish it would run,” he remarked.
Talking about one of his films that broke barriers decades ago, Mohanlal said, “I did a movie called as Saaza-E-Kaalapani (Hindi dubbed version of Malayalam film Kaalapani). It was a pan-Indian film, it was done long back. Santosh (Sivan) only shot it. Santosh won a National Award (Best Cinematography) for it. Somebody should do it then only it will happen We have all the materials, great technicians, and artists but somebody should bring out very different films that can be shown anywhere in the world. We are just trying. Let it happen,”
Barroz, shot in 3D by Santosh Sivan, is set to release in theaters on December 25, 2024 .
