Mohanlal’s directorial debut, Barroz, is one of the most eagerly awaited Malayalam films of 2024. The film now has a release date after being postponed several times for different reasons. The new release date for the 3D fantasy movie is October 3. With this project, the Malayalam superstar decided to get into filmmaking after more than 40 years in the film industry as an actor. For those who are unaware, the film began production in 2021 after being first announced in 2019.
On August 17, Mohanlal announced on his official social media accounts that Barroz will soon hit the big screen. The actor’s ambitious project will have a theatrical release on October 3 worldwide. In conjunction with the significant announcement, the Malayalam superstar unveiled a new poster showcasing his role in this eagerly anticipated movie. For the actor's fans, who have been eagerly awaiting word on the movie, the latest news was a huge relief. But neither he nor the producers have provided any information regarding the release of the trailer, which was originally set for September 6.
Barroz was scheduled to debut as an Onam film in theatres in September, but the release date was pushed back last week. Nonetheless, the announcement severely disappointed movie buffs and fans of the superstar, who had been excitedly anticipating his directing debut for the previous three years.
The film's creators were recently involved in legal issues as a result of a complaint of copyright infringement made by German-Malayalam writer George Thundiparambil. This was assumed to be a reason for the postponement of release. The author served the producers of the Mohanlal-directed film with a legal notice to alert them to this. There are several claims that the story of Barroz and George's 2008 book Maya are similar. According to reports, Mohanlal plays a 300-year-old guardian ghost who keeps an eye on Vasco Da Gama's treasure in the movie.
