Is Barroz postponed again?

If the latest reports are to be believed, Barroz might not hit theatres on March 28, 2024, as decided earlier. According to the grapevine, the makers are planning to postpone the release of Mohanlal's directorial debut yet again, as the post-production, especially the VFX works is taking longer than expected. Even though the reports have not been confirmed yet, the rumour mills suggest that an official update on the same will be out in a few days.

Barroz: The journey so far

As you may know, Mohanlal’s directorial debut, which is based on Jijo Punnoose’s novel Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure, was officially launched at a star-studded event held in Kochi in March 2021. The shooting of the Barroz was immediately kicked off in Fort Kochi, but it was delayed abruptly due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the multiple lockdowns. Many members of the original star cast, including lead actress Shayala McFree and actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran, who was supposed to play a key role, exited the project due to technical reasons.

Later, writer Jijo Punnoose also confirmed his exit from Barroz, citing creative differences with director-leading man Mohanlal. The veteran writer also confirmed that the film is no longer based on the original script, as the focus has completely shifted to the titular character, played by the director himself. Kalavoor Ravikumar joined the team as the co-writer of the film. As reported earlier, the team wrapped up the entire filming of the film in March 2023.  The much-awaited 3D fantasy film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
