Barroz – Mohanlal's directorial debut gets a new release date? Here’s what we know

Mohanlal, the superstar of Malayalam cinema, is all set to make his directorial debut soon. For the uninitiated, the veteran actor is stepping into a new phase of his film career after completing over 4 decades as an actor. The National Award-winner launched his directorial debut Barroz, which is touted to be a 3D fantasy film, in 2021. Even though the project started rolling immediately, it was delayed multiple times due to lockdowns and production issues.

Earlier, Barroz was slated to hit the big screens on March 28, 2024. But later, it was confirmed that Mohanlal’s directorial work had been postponed again due to the delay in the film’s post-production work. However, the makers of the 3D fantasy film are now almost finalising a new release date for the project.

Mohanlal’s Barroz to be released in May 2024?

If the recent updates are to be believed, director-leading man Mohanlal and his team are now keen to release Barroz in the first half of 2024 itself. The makers, who are not happy about the project getting delayed further, are reportedly keen to release the 3D fantasy drama in May 2024. Some unconfirmed reports suggest that the team is considering May 6, 2024, as the new release date of the film.

The grapevine also suggests that Mohanlal and the team feel May is the perfect month for the release of Barroz, as the movie will be able to have a worldwide solo release. The makers are quite sure about not wanting to release the ambitious project in April and June 2024, which are the months of major festival releases in Malayalam cinema. The team is planning to avoid a clash release, considering the experimental nature of the film. An official announcement on the same is expected to be out very soon.

The movie, which stars Mohanlal himself in the titular role, is based on Jijo Punnoose’s famous novel, Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure. Kalavoor Ravikumar is the co-writer of the film. The team wrapped up the entire filming of Barroz 3D in March 2023. Santhosh Sivan is the director of photography. Lydian Nadhaswaran has composed the songs and the original score. The much-awaited 3D fantasy film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
