Mohanlal’s directorial debut was made with a budget of Rs 150 crore, which makes it the most expensive project made in Malayalam cinema, yet.

According to the film’s marketing head, Barroz was made with a massive budget of over Rs 150 crore. As per Dr. Sharon Thomas’ revelations, it has been confirmed that the 3D fantasy film was made as the most expensive film ever produced by the Malayalam film industry. The new updates have left the Malayalam cine-goers and Mohanlal fans, shocked.

Barroz, which hit the theatres on the special occasion of Christmas 2024, emerged as a major commercial disaster despite getting a massive opening. According to the industry tracker Sacknilk, Mohanlal’s directorial debut might end its lifetime run at the theatres with a collection of less than Rs 25 crore. In that case, Barroz might end up as Malayalam cinema's biggest box office disaster.

Mohanlal played the role of Barroz, the guardian of D’Gama’s treasure in the 3D fantasy film, which stars Maya Rao West, Cesar Lorente Raton, Ignacio Mateos, Kallirroi Tziafeta, June Fig, Tuhin Menon, Guru Somasundaram, Komal Sharma, Viviya Shanth, Pedro Figueiredo, and others in the pivotal roles. Santhosh Sivan is the director of photography, of the film. Lydian Nadhaswaram composed the songs. Mark Kilian composed the background score. Barroz is produced by Antony Perumbavoor, under the banner Aashirvad Cinemas.
