Hema Malini on being reluctant to take up the role
Hema Malini, who played the leading lady in the film, while talking to Hindustan Times, said that she had second thoughts about taking on the role of a mother to four adult sons in the movie Baghban because she was only 55 at the time. Malini was prepared to reject the role, but her mother gave the actress some advice and persuaded her to accept. Hema's mother made sure she didn't let the opportunity pass even though she was still unsure. She told the portal, "My mother said ‘If Amitabh Bachchan is doing it, then you can also do it, no problem. He is opposite you.”

The veteran actress also recalled her time spent working with superstar Amitabh Bachchan. The actress revealed that Big B's upbeat demeanor stood out to her when the movie was being made. Everyone happily worked on the movie. She said that all the crew members used to light up and say, "Arre Amit Ji aa gaye," when the megastar would enter the set because he would bring so much light. The actress also believes that he is not the same now. "Pata nahi, thoda serious ho gaye hain aaj kal" (I don't know, he seems to be taking things more seriously now), the actress added.
