Another first-time filmmaker is set to make a mark in the Telugu digital space. Director Krishna Kanth Mamidala a.k.a Krishkan, a former associate of Nagesh Kukunoor, is foraying into the OTTs with a web series titled Bad Trip. The dark comedy thriller is the third Telugu original for Sony LIV in 2023 after Nijam with Smitha and 3Cs. The teaser of the show was unveiled earlier this week.
Ravi Varma, Archana Shastry, Giridhar, Chaitanya Krishna, Adrika Sharma, Prachi Thaker play the lead roles in the Telugu show. Produced by Mahi Illindra for Sony LIV, the web series is set to land on the streamer on March 10. The story, going by the teaser, revolves around a bunch of characters who resort to crime in a bid to get rich overnight.
Sony LIV claims the show is about three strangers who share a cab with a contract killer. Ved is a corporate employee who quits his software job in Bangalore with an aim to turn a writer. When he arrives in Hyderabad, he needs to convince his parents that he’s not ready for marriage yet. He books a cab at a railway station, while meeting his co-passengers Abhi and Santosh, two contrasting personalities who change the trajectory of his life.
What happens when two strangers take on a hitman's job? The show spans across eight episodes and promises to be a good mix of humour, thrills, crime. It’s a good opportunity for actors like Ravi Varma, Chaitanya Krishna and Archana Shastry to reinvent themselves, given the scope that the long-form storytelling offers in terms of characterisation and performances.
The colour tone of the show too looked interesting in the brief glimpse.Akshit Dixit cranks the camera for Bad Trip while it has music by Gyaani Singh and is edited by Kiran Thumpera. Rajini is the costume designer and Krishna Maya is the production designer.
