The trailer for Back to the Outback is finally out. The computer-animated musical adventure comedy film is set against the backdrop of wildlife in Australia. A gang of Australia's scariest creatures scheme a daring escape from their zoo to the Outback, fed up with being trapped in a reptile house where humans treat them like monsters. These profoundly misunderstood creatures have gold hearts, and they're breaking free from prison on a quest to find their way home.
This holiday season, a bunch of "deadly" animals, including a famous koala dubbed Pretty Boy, escape the Australian Wildlife Park and return to the Outback! This new family comedy features voiceovers by Isla Fisher, Tim Minchin, Eric Bana, Guy Pearce, Miranda Tapsell, Angus Imrie, Keith Urban, Aislinn Derbez, and Jacki Weaver. They're dangerously charming and on the loose.
Back to the Outback is directed by Clare Knight and Harry Cripps. The story is by Gregory Lessans and Cripps, while the latter has penned the screenplay too.
The film, produced by Daniela Mazzucato, has music composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams.
While talking about Maddie, a kind-hearted snake voiced by Fisher, Knight told Deadline that stories about hidden beauty have always moved her. She called Maddie both beautiful and terrifying, and getting to convey that message through comedy is the icing on the cake.
While Cripps told the publication that he grew up in Australia, he spent a lot of time in the Blue Mountains, which are home to many different sorts of snakes and spiders. He has always favoured them over the adorable cuddly animals, so it has been a delight to make a film with these venomous but beautiful tiny critters as the protagonists. Cripps added that Back to the Outback is a love letter to Australia's vast and distinctive wildlife.
The upcoming Netflix release is set to stream on December 10, 2021.
