Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi's action flick Baby John was released in theaters on December 25. Despite high expectations, the film failed miserably at the box office. The film has been witnessing a significant drop in collection post its opening day. As today, December 31, marks the first Monday since the film was released, Kalees' directorial managed to collect Rs.30.50 crore in total after a lot of struggle.
Baby John was one of the most-anticipated films of 2024. However, it has been underperforming at the box office. Opened with Rs. 11.25 crore, the film has witnessed a significant drop in collection. On its first Monday, day 6, the film's box office collection is more than worrisome as the figure is just Rs.1.85 crore. With this, Varun Dhawan's film earned a total of Rs. 30.50 crore at the domestic box office.
Bollywood Hungama reported that as Baby John failed to impress the box office, the shows of Varun Dhawan's film were being replaced. “There’s a curiosity to see it (Marco) as many are claiming that Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ultra-violent film Animal (2023), looks like a kiddie movie, in front of Marco because of its excessive violent scenes. Hence, there’s a demand for it, and Baby John’s shows are being replaced with that of Marco and also films like Pushpa 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King," the source added.
Unni Mukundan's Marco has been getting rave reviews from fans as well as critics. The film has been doing exceptionally well at the box office.
The film was released on December 20. The film performed so well that Unni wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that more than 140 shows were being added for Marco in Hindi.
Unni recently confirmed that he had dubbed himself for the movie, Marco. “We didn’t want the audience to feel that it is just another dubbed version of a South film. We have tried to ensure the quality is retained,” said the actor. Meanwhile, Marco also features Kabir Duhan Singh, Siddique, Jagadeesh and Durva Thacker in pivotal roles.
On the other hand, Baby John marks Bollywood debut of Malayali actress Keerthy Suresh. The film is about a single father who leads a double life as a non-violent cafe owner and a former cop.
