Baburaj says a ‘cinema group’ is behind the cheating case: ‘Even my former driver is part of the conspiracy’

Kerala police had registered a cheating case against Malayalam actor Baburaj after a complainant named Riyas had approached the cops, alleging that the artiste and his wife Vani Vishwanath had embezzled funds worth Rs 3.14 crore after misleading him to believe that film production was a profitable business.

Riyas had said that he had funded Baburaj’s film Koodasha in 2018, but didn’t receive any cash as profits after the film’s release. The actor took to his social media page to refute the allegations citing that the movie was a box office failure and that not only did he do the movie for free, he had also arranged food and accommodation for the team during its shoot at his resort in Munnar.

The Joji actor also said that after he couldn’t help out the producers get a good deal for its satellite rights, they began threatening him and he filed a case against them at Aluva SP office in 2018.

Now in an interview with Can Channels, the actor said that he knows that exact reason the case has been dug up after all these years and also the people behind it. “Now that they know that they couldn’t trap me in any sexual harassment case, they have come up with this cheating case,” he told the online portal.

Baburaj said the people behind this case as well as the land fraud case that was filed against him earlier this year for allegedly leasing his resort in Munnar by concealing the legalities of the deal, were the same. “They are from the cinema group who are against me. The driver who had worked with me is also part of the group. He is also part of this conspiracy,” Baburaj said, adding that he has filed a petition against the accusers at the High Court and will be fighting the case legally, especially after they dragged Vani Vishwanath’s name in the case.
