Originally, Preetham Gubbi's Baanadariyalli was meant to be a Christmas 2022 release. But days before the release, it came to light that the makers of the film opted to postpone the theatrical release to an undisclosed date in the first quarter of 2022. OTTplay gathered from the director himself that the pre-release promotions for the new-set date were to begin in January 2023 with a song release. The new release date of March 17th was disclosed around the same time.

Then came the second deferral about a month later when team Baanadariyalli cited R. Chandru's Kabzaa, which was to release on the same day (March 17th), as a tough competitor and chose to postpone the release for the second time. Those who were looking forward to the collaboration between Ganesh and Preetham Gubbi (their fourth so far) were slightly gutted by the call but one hoped to see the film in theatres sooner than later.

Cut to August 2023 and one still awaits the announcement of the new release date of Baanadariyalli. Earlier today, August 6th, the team released a special poster, featuring the lead cast of the film, to wish netizens a Happy Friendship Day. An endearing post, no doubt, but the comments that the post drew suggest quite strongly that the "public", as it were, is a little frustrated with all the dilly-dallying.

"Bega announcement madi sir," said one user on Twitter to Preetham Gubbi. "Coming soon poster beda sir 馃槶 Yavaga release antha heli 馃檹Alivargu yavde poster release madbedi 馃様," said another, meaning "We don't want the Coming Soon poster sir. Just tell us when you are releasing the film. Until then, please don't release any poster".

The comments on Preetham Gubbi's Twitter post might be only a handful, but they all unanimously implore the filmmaker to bring the film out onto the big screen.

What could the reason (for the delay) be though? Well, while one has no absolute clarity regarding this, it is speculated that the makers are still in the process of closing their post-theatrical rights. With the remainder of 2023 already packed with exciting Kannada releases, team Baanadariyalli will have to pick the right moment for their film.

The cast of Baanadariyalli also includes Rukmini Vasanth, Reeshma Nanaiah, Rangayana Raghu and others. Arjun Janya has composed the music for the film.
