When director Preetham Gubbi first announced the release date of his latest collaboration with good pal, Golden Star Ganesh, Baanadariyalli, it was meant to be Christmas 2022 release. But that was not to be, and in the time since, there’ve been multiple date announcements, only for it to get pushed ahead again. The latest was September 15, which was thought to be THE date, considering it would be clashing only with Meghana Raj Sarja’s Tatsama Tadbhava. But as of this morning, plans have changed again.

Preetham’s film, which is being distributed by KRG Studios, is taking up the slot vacated by Salaar and will now be in theatres on September 28. Although Baanadariyalli is the first Kannada film to zero in on that date, it will have tough competition at the box office, given that several big-ticket from other languages, including Ravi Teja’s Tiger Nageshwara Rao, Pulkit Samrat’s Fukrey 3, Jayam Ravi’s Iraivan, Siddharth’s Chittha, Harish Kalyan’s Parking, have also confirmed September 28 for their theatrical outing. Not to forget that The Kashmir Files maker Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War was already lined up for release on September 28.
Baanadariyalli has Ganesh as a cricketer, while Rukmini plays a water sport enthusiast and Reeshma a wildlife photographer. In preparation for the role, Rukmini had spent days learning surfing and paddle boarding. A love story meant to tug at heartstrings, Preetham describes his film as “not a love story, but a story about love”. The songs that have been released, as well as the teaser, hint at Ganesh and Rukmini being a much-in-love pair in the film, while Reeshma’s equation with him remains unclear. The film has music by Arjun Janya, and is based on a story by cinematographer Preetha Jayaraman. Fans are hopeful that Baanadaariyalli will be a comeback of sorts for Ganesh .
An official announcement of the new release date is expected later today, when the trailer of Baanadaariyalli comes out. Veteran producer Jayanna will release the trailer at a public event in Bengaluru.
