Artist Baadal Nanjundaswamy has left many of his mesmeric impressions across Bengaluru, Mysuru, and other places but his most recent work has Sandalwood written all over it. The street artist recently chose to turn a barren building wall into a vibrant tribute for the Sandalwood Queen herself, Ramya, and send out the wackiest and warmest birthday wishes to her.
"Happy Birthday," yells the wall boasting a majestic mural painting of the Kannada film actress Ramya whose beaming face replaces that of the queen for your usual deck of cards. With a glittery crown on top of her head and a royal ceremonial dress to complete the picture, Baadal Nanjundaswamy declared Ramya as the official Queen of Hearts of all of Karnataka - if this wasn't suggesting enough, his mural also sent out a few hearts flying into the air as the final grand touch.
Ramya, or Divya Spandana, celebrated her 40th birthday on the 29th of November and the internet was swamped with lovely fans' wishes and messages the entire day. The actress too, overwhelmed by the outpour of love towards her, took to social media to thank everyone for their special gestures.
Coming back to Baadal Nanjundaswamy's gesture, netizens were left spellbound by the artwork and comments flowed in soon enough to express their awe of the finesse and artistry of the Mysuru-born painter.
"I thought it was a banner at first glance," wrote a netizen, highlighting the life-like portrayal of Ramya in the painting.
"Rare Craze for female celebrity despite away from silver screen for an almost a decade," wrote a user while another Ramya fan declared emphatically that once a Queen, she will always remain a queen!
Over the years, Baadal Nanjundaswamy has risen in prominence as a cult personality, of sorts, among the masses for his poignant use of art and painting for the sake of social activism. Be it to highlight poorly shaped roads or to attract public & media attention toward any kind of civic apathy, 'Baadal' Nanjundaswamy has been a most active urban crusader who has not only embellished the streets of Karnataka but also lent a new meaning to the purpose of art. He also served as the production designer on the recent Daali Dhananjaya film Head Bush.
