Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2024: The starting grid at the Baku City Circuit for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2024 on September 24 is looking very exciting for Ferrari

It’s time for Round 17 of the 2024 Formula 1 racing season and the action has now shifted to the Baku City Circuit, where at the end of qualifying, Charles Leclerc has notched up his third pole position start of the season. His teammate Carlos Sainz is not far behind in the second row, having finished third in qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on September 15. Leclerc will be joined by McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in the front row.

Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen’s bad run continues, as he starts from the third row, having qualified in sixth position. His teammate Sergio Perez is ahead of him, starting beside Carlos Sainz in the second row. The race will begin at 4.30 pm (IST) and can be streamed live on FanCode.
Leclerc, who is currently in the third position in the Drivers’ Championship tally, has won two races this season – Monaco and Italy – of which, only the first came with a pole position start. Ferrari’s top driver will head into the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on the back of having won the previous race in Italy.

The 1 and 3 start for Ferrari is looking interesting for the Constructor, which is currently only 39 points behind leader Red Bull Racing and 31 behind second-place holder McLaren. The 2024 Formula 1 racing calendar is in its final leg now, with only 8 races pending, including in Baku. The competition in the Constructors’ Championship is still wide open, with both McLaren and Ferrari contenders for the top position, what with Red Bull struggling to give its drivers a well-performing car.
Red Bull is at 446 points so far, while McLaren has 438 and Ferrari 407. At number 4 is Mercedes with 292, while the rest are out of contention for a top spot, no matter the result in the rest of the races. As for the Drivers’ Championship, Leclerc is still 86 points behind Verstappen, and will have to push for quite a few wins for the remaining season, to stand a chance. He’s also got McLaren’s Lando Norris to contend with. Norris is in second place currently.
