Ayushmann Khurrana: Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani set the ground for toxic masculinity explored in Dream Girl 2

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani, featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, is currently going viral for addressing toxic masculinity. Ayushmann Khurrana spoke about it too at the Dream Girl 2 trailer launch.

Ayushmann said at the event that Dream Girl 2 will take the topic to the next level. He said, “I’m glad that Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani is working well at the Box Office. They have set a good ground for toxic masculinity. Our film, Dream Girl 2, will take it to the next level.”

The actor further adds that Dream Girl 2 has a lot of comedy. He shares, “It’s great fun, good to see people who are accepting these kind of films – on social causes. It’s not just the message in the film. It’s more fun. It has a lot of comedy.”

Ayushmann cited the examples of Govinda and Kamal Haasan’s movies where they cross-dressed on screen. He said, “Of course, we get inspired. Aunty No. 1, Chachi 420 are a few examples of that. Even Kishore da has done it once upon a time.”

The actor called Dream Girl 2 ‘light hearted.’ It brings him back as Pooja.

Ananya Panday joins the film’s sequel as the female lead. The original movie starred Nushrratt Bharuccha.

It brings Vijay Raaz, Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, Abhishek Banerjee and Annu Kapoor back. The latter plays the role of Ayushmann’s (Karamveer Singh’s) father, Jagjit Singh.
