Ayothi fame director R Manthira Moorthy annonces his next. It's not with Kangana Ranaut

Director R. Manthira Moorthy announced his next directorial venture with the production company Gopuram Films on Wednesday. The producers confirmed the news, expressing their excitement about collaborating with Manthira of Ayothi fame on social media. "Embark on a new journey with us as we unveil a tale that will touch your heart! Excited to team up with @dir_Mmoorthy for #GopuramFilmsNext Production!," tweeted the production house.

Manthira also expressed joy and gratitude for receiving the backing of Gopuram Films for his second directorial venture.

Earlier speculations were rife about Manthira's next project, with some claiming he would direct Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut. However, Manthira debunked the rumours, revealing he was not doing a film with her.

Kangana Ranaut is busy campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections as she contests from a seat in Himachal Pradesh as a BJP candidate. Meanwhile, Manthira was supposed to do a film under Trident Arts, but for some reason, that collaboration didn't happen.

Manthira became a toast of the Tamil film industry following the commercial and critical success of Ayothi. The film, which he wrote and directed, opened in cinemas in March last year to glowing reviews. Starring M. Sasikumar in the lead role, Ayothi addresses the issue of growing religious polarization among the general public in the country.

Ayothi became a huge hit on streaming

The story of Ayothi begins in Ayodhya, India's spiritual capital. A deeply prejudiced man goes on a pilgrimage to Rameswaram with his family. However, his problematic behaviour and indifference to others lead to an accident, resulting in the death of his wife. The rest of the narration forces the unkind man and his children to rely on the kindness of strangers to get back to their hometown.

Ayothi gained popularity following its release on streaming platforms. The film debuted on ZEE5 and became an instant hit, receiving critical acclaim. The film is also streaming on OTTplay Premium.
