Ayalaan OTT release date - Sivakarthikeyan's sci-fi comedy is all set to begin streaming on THIS platform

Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan's latest movie Ayalaan is all set to make its streaming debut this week. The movie will have its world digital premiere on Sun NXT on February 9, less than four weeks after its initial theatrical release.

Ayalaan was released in cinemas on January 12 to coincide with the Pongal holiday. The movie clashed with Tamil star Dhanush's period drama Captain Miller at the box office. Incidentally, Captain Miller is also set to have its streaming premiere on the same date on Amazon Prime Video.

Ayalaan holds a special place in Sivakarthikeyan's heart

It wouldn't be wrong to say that Ayalaan is close to Sivakarthikeyan's heart. The movie faced several delays over the year and almost faded from public memory before hitting the theatres earlier this year.

Ayalaan's journey from its conception in 2016 to its upcoming 2024 release spans eight years, marked by numerous challenges. Sivakarthikeyan's unwavering faith in director R. Ravikumar's vision kept him dedicated to the project throughout these years. So much so that he even gave up his salary to support the necessary expenses for its completion.

Ayalaan's box office woes

However, Sivakarthikeyan couldn't give the wide release he had initially planned due to an unfavourable box office situation. The film, originally scheduled for a simultaneous release in Tamil and Telugu, faced delays amid tough competition at the Tollywood box office during the Sankranti holiday.

As four major Telugu releases, including Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram and the superhero film HanuMan, hit theatres, the Ayalaan team had to reevaluate their strategy. The intense competition led to the decision to postpone the release of Ayalaan to ensure a better reception in the crowded market. However, the movie failed to generate the required enthusiasm among the fans in the Telugu states when it received a token release a week later. 

Ayalaan is a sci-fi drama that explores the experiences of an alien navigating the city of Chennai. Besides Sivakarthikeyan, the movie also features Rakul Preet Singh, Sharad Kelkar, and Isha Koppikar.
