Sivakarthikeyan's Ayalaan was the first movie to announce a Pongal release. The sci-fi drama helmed by Ravikumar was initially planned as a Deepavali release this year. The pending post-production works led them to opt for a Pongal release. Sundar C's Aranmanai 4 is the next outing which has a confirmed release for the festival.
Jayam Ravi's Siren and Arun Vijay's Vanangaan are other films that are eyeing the festival. The former, helmed by Anthony Bhagyaraj, is a crime drama while the latter directed by Bala is a social drama.
