No movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has faced as many challenges as Avengers 5, formerly known as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Blade might have its unique struggles, but the fifth Avengers movie has been through a whirlwind of controversies and changes. With so much buzz around it, you can't help but catch some updates even if you're not a fan.

The main star, Jonathan Majors, who played the villain, was found guilty of abuse. The studio fired him, leading to the title "The Kang Dynasty" being dropped. There haven't been many updates about the movie since then, but today's news changes that. Ryan Reynolds has spoken about his involvement in the movie, which reportedly is writerless once again. Read on to know more about these interesting updates below.

Michael Waldron No Longer Involved With Avengers 5?

Michael Waldron, the writer of Avengers 5, has reportedly quit the project. This isn't the first time the project has faced such a setback; Jeff Loveness and director Destin Daniel-Cretton also exited the project due to scheduling issues and the fallout from Jonathan Majors’ firing. Waldron's departure is particularly surprising because he had been associated with the project for a long time. With rumors that production will start in late March 2025, this is an unexpected twist.

It is unclear how much of Kang the Conqueror will remain in Avengers 5. There have been rumors that he might be replaced by Doctor Doom, The Beyonder, or another major villain. A new writer might bring some changes, but they would likely only be able to make minor adjustments to Waldron’s existing work, as filming is scheduled to begin in just eight months.

Is Ryan Reynolds Involved In Avengers 5?

There's significant buzz around Deadpool & Wolverine, as Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are set to make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, a massive leap for the franchise. When asked about the future of Deadpool in the MCU in an interview with Variety, Reynolds said, "I don’t know. I could see any version of it. I can imagine a solo movie, being part of an ensemble. I can imagine that this is also the last time. I never feel anything other than that."

However, when he mentioned ensemble movies and the possibility of being in Avengers, he activated his signature wink and added, "I don’t know. Yeah, we’ll see. Yeah." This suggests there might be something in the works. Given Deadpool's popularity, he would be a valuable asset for a movie focused on assembling a league of superheroes.

Avengers 5, which is currently director-less, writer-less, and title-less, is set for a May 1, 2026 release. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
