The next film, Avengers, will include the return of one hero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A veteran actor at Marvel Studios has revealed the film's filming dates. Moving forward with the Multiverse Saga, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is drawing nearer to its first Avengers film since Avengers: Endgame. The Phase 6 instalment, which is supposedly working under the working title Avengers 5, will eventually signal the beginning of the end for Marvel's multiverse tale.
Benedict Cumberbatch's revelation on Avengers 5
Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch reflected on his role as the formidable sorcerer in a recent episode of Still Watching Netflix. In the middle of his response, the British star revealed some intriguing news on Avengers 5 as he discussed the production of the Phase 6 film in 2025. He said that Doctor Strange is a Marvel character here, and he must admit that playing the superhero brings him enormous joy. The pleasure of playing him also allows Cumberbatch to contribute to the creation and platforming of stories and writing, which in turn helps to reduce the prevalence of commercial fodder. As an actor and producer, the character has been an incredible blessing to him. Playing Doctor Strange is a blast, because he is hilarious. It's cooking up a storm, and he can't wait for the Avengers next year.
Who else will be in the Avengers 5 cast is anyone's guess, but having Doctor Strange on board is a no-brainer. Stephen Strange may have been absent from the MCU since Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but the fourth film in the series was pivotal for the character and the overall plot of the Multiverse Saga. Cumberbatch's previous Marvel Cinematic Universe film adequately introduced the Marvel sorcerer to the idea of the multiverse, illuminating alternate universes for the Avenger.
The importance of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Saga
As the heroes of Avengers 5 prepare to face the new normal and ensure the security of the multiverse, Doctor Strange will prove to be an invaluable ally. If Kang makes a triumphant return, whoever takes over for Jonathan Majors has the opportunity to provide Doctor Strange with a chance to face off against the major villain of the Multiverse Saga, though it is unclear whether the plot is moving forward with him. The character suggests that between Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Avengers 5, there may have been more multiverse exploration.
Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool & Wolverine, is being considered for the lead role in Phase 6, so filming Avengers 5 in 2025 seems like a reasonable choice. Assuming Levy does indeed join Avengers 5, it's highly probable that additional actors will begin to divulge information on their involvement with the film. After what seems like an eternity, Avengers 5 seems to be finally heading in the right direction towards becoming a reality.
