With Anirban Bhattacharya, Sohini Sarkar, and Arna Mukhopadhyay in the lead, Athhoi has a stellar cast. It is a direct adaptation of Arna’s hit stage production and is based on Shakespeare’s Othello. The teaser of Athoi, which is also Arna’s directorial debut, was dropped on May 1. The film is scheduled to be released on June 14.

The teaser offers a glimpse of three main characters – Gogo (based on Iago), played by Anirban, Atthoi (Othello), played by Arna and Diya (Desdemona), played by Sohini. It also gives hints of Gogo’s toxic cynicism, Athhoi’s trust, and Diya’s swag. The interpersonal relationship between Athhoi and Gogo is somewhat revealed. There is a scene in which a young boy from a well-off family gives a shirt to another poor young boy sitting awkwardly on the floor of a palatial house. Before giving the shirt, the former one makes sure to tear it off so that the poor boy gets a torn shirt. This scene is not elaborated in the teaser. However, the voice-over of Gogo, aka Anirban, tries to convince Atthhoi that the world is less of love and more of hatred and trolls. The one-minute-45-second video ends on a loud note.

On a press note, Arna said, “With Athhoi, we aim to delve deep into the complexities of human emotions and present a modern interpretation of Shakespeare's timeless tale. Through this film, we hope to engage and provoke audiences, sparking conversations about love, jealousy, and ambition in today's world.”

This film will mark Arna’s debut as a feature film director. “Bringing Athhoi to life has been a labor of love. It's a story that resonates across generations, and we've endeavoured to infuse it with contemporary relevance while staying true to the essence of Shakespeare's vision,” he said.
