Ashok Selvan, Keerthi Pandian took a break before marriage: 'We dated for 9 years'

Tamil actors Ashok Selvan and Keerthi Pandian tied the knot in an intimate wedding ceremony earlier this month. The wedding surprised everyone as many speculated if it was a promotional stunt for their upcoming film, Blue Star. 

Bankrolled by Pa Ranjith, Blue Star has Ashok and Keerthi playing the lead roles. And there was a sense of disbelief when the couple came out with the wedding announcement.

However, many may not know that Ashok and Keerthi courted each other for over a decade before they took their relationship to the next level. As a matter of fact, the couple also briefly parted ways before they reconciled and decided to get married. "We met each other for the first time in 2013. We dated for nine years and took a break. And we stayed separated for almost three years. But, when we reconnected, we decided to get married," Keerthi told Cinema Vikatan recently. 

While it was love at first sight for Ashok, Keerthi took her own time to fall in love with him. "When I saw Keerthi in saree, it was love at first sight for me," Ashok revealed. "Despite everything going on in the party, she stood out from the crowd for me. I felt something special about her." 

The couple for the first time met at a Deepavali party in 2013. In 2013, Keerthi hosted a Deepavali party for her family and friends. And Ashok got invited to a party through a mutual friend. That's where the duo first.

Ashok revealed that he didn't waste any time in revealing how he felt about Keerthi. But, Keerthi turned down Ashok's overtures as she was seeing someone else at the time. The duo later grew closer together as Keerthi was involved in film distribution. She ended up distributing Ashok's debut movie Soodhu Kavvum and later Pizza II: Villa.
